Traditional Service

8:30AM · Sanctuary

This traditional Methodist service is designed for the family that wants to worship early and have the rest of the day as family time. We feature traditional hymns, special music by the Sanctuary Choir of volunteers choir members, and liturgy that enhances our service of worship. Our Senior Minister, Dr. Gil Watson, is usually the preacher. We take Communion on the first Sunday of every month.

Contemporary Service

9:50AM · Faith & Arts Center

Come experience worship at Northside at our 9:50AM, Sunday Morning Contemporary Service. This “Come As You Are” environment utilizes dynamic liturgy, seminar style sermons, multimedia presentations and a multi-level praise team to encourage worshipers to continue to build their relationship with God through nurturing each other, walking the Christian journey as Jesus taught us, and by Worshiping in Spirit and in Truth. Whether you are a life long Christian, or just beginning your faith journey, come check this service out! The Contemporary Worship Service is held Sunday morning at 9:50am in the Faith and Arts Center.

Many times special music is offered by other musical ensembles in the church. The sermon is usually preached by the Senior Minister, Dr. Gil Watson. Sunday Morning Studies

9:45am Classes & Studies

Any Given Sunday – Room 364 (Faith & Arts Center Building)

A Sunday School environment for all Young Adults in their early 20′s to early 30′s who are looking for community and Bible teaching. This class is taught by Todd Baker, NUMC Young Adult Director.

Emmaus Bible Study – Chapel

This is a weekly Bible study for all adults who are looking for a no-frills study of God’s Word.  We invite you to come be a part of the Journey as we gather to reason together about God’s revelation of Himself in the Bible. This class is taught by Jerry Landers.

Friends in Faith – Room 331A

This discussion-oriented class of adults in their 40’s and 50’s focuses on exploring and applying the Bible to everyday living.

Genesis – Board Room, Room 244

The Genesis Sunday School Class is comprised of Northside members and visitors, age 40-ish to 60-ish, who seek to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible and its application to contemporary life. The class is largely self-taught as well as being led by outside teachers from the NUMC staff, congregation and the community. The teaching is Biblically oriented and interactive with class discussion often becoming the highlight of the morning. Please come join us!

Northside Bible – Room 335

Composed of mostly couples and widows/widowers who have graduated from the “young adult” stage. This class is mostly grandparents who think and act young in a mature sort of way.

Pathfinders – Room 345

This class focuses on a combination of practical and biblical approaches to everyday living. We welcome anyone looking for a strong fellowship-based class, comprised mainly of adults in their 30s, 40s, & 50s. Members are actively involved in quarterly service projects and social gatherings.

Seekers – Parlor

This class of couples in their 30’s to 50’s is focused on raising families with kids of all ages from toddlers to teens. Lessons deal with real life issues from a Biblical perspective.

Wesley Friendship – Room 331B

This class emphasizes Bible study taught by men and women within the group, which is comprised of singles and couples in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s with children ranging from teenagers to grown adults.

11:00am Classes & Studies

The Upper Room – Room 331B

The Upper Room class seeks to understand life’s challenges from a biblical perspective, discussing how we can apply what we just heard in worship to our everyday lives. Social events and service projects outside of church are regularly scheduled throughout the year. All who desire to grow in their faith alongside us are welcome!

New Wings Class (women only) – Parlor

Women who are single again after being divorced or widowed will find a place at Northside in the New Wings class. Ann Platz, gifted author, speaker, and encourager, will share the wisdom she has gained through her life journey, being both divorced as a young mother and widowed after a vibrant 30-year marriage to her second husband, John. When old wings are clipped, God grows new wings. Please give yourself or a loved one the gift of this six-week class (January 15 – February 19, 2012). Women who are not Northside members are also warmly welcomed.

The Journey – Room 362 (Faith & Arts Center Building)

Where to Park

Parking is available in the deck along Kingswood Drive.  If the parking deck is full, please use the parking lots at North Atlanta High School but please do not park along the street.

Where to Go

Once you park, follow the sidewalk up to the main church building.  You will be greeted by our Host Team and Sunday Servants.  They can direct you where you need to go.

Our beliefs as United Methodists are summarized in our Articles of Religion and our Confession of Faith. Some of our key beliefs are as follows

We worship one God as the three divine Persons of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and is truly God and truly human, and we praise God’s goodness shown in Christ’s self offering, which involved His life, His crucifixion, and death, and His resurrection from the dead.

It has been the distinctive gift of the Methodist tradition to emphasize the work of God in bringing men and women to conviction (knowledge of our need for God’s grace), to conversion (pardon from sin that comes by faith in Christ as a gift from God), and to Christian holiness (growing in the likeness of God, as we are empowered by God’s grace, both as individuals and as communities). Our church also insists that the grace of God is available to all persons. Christ is “the true light, which enlightens everyone.” (John 1:9).

We practice baptism of infants and adults as Christ’s appointed means of bringing persons into the fellowship of the church, and we practice holy communion as Christ’s appointed means of celebrating Christ’s offering for us and the fellowship we have with Christ and with each other.

We are now accepting reservations for Wednesday Night Dinner at catering.northsideumc.org.  This year we have new and easier ways to make your reservations.  Also, we will be offering an Extravagant Salad Bar featuring weekly specialty salads.
